SCHMITZWilliam A; age 89 of Mt. Airy, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the VA Hospice in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on June 8, 1927 to Gus and Hilda Schmitz of Northside, the second of ten children. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a retired Captain of the Cincinnati Fire Department. He received his B.A. from Xavier University while working full time and raising seven children. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (nee Knoepfler) of 64 years; Devoted father of the late Billy (Lynn), Patti (Keith) James, Jimmy (Kathy), Michael, Teresa (Scott) Winkler, Tony (Ginny) and Mary (Pat) Judge; Beloved grandfather of Matt, Alexis, Allison, Chloe, Casey, Abbey, Dana, Kyle, Kurt, Jacob, Hannah, Adam and great grandfather of ten. Also, survived by sisters Alice (John) Ittner, Annie (Tom) Stark, and brothers Gus, Joe, and Allen and preceded in death by sister Maggie (Ray) Schwartz and brothers Tom, Bob and Paul. Mass of celebration is Saturday, January 21 at 11:00am at Little Flower Catholic Church. Reception will be immediately following in Little Flower school cafeteria.
