RYAN A. SMITH, 41 WARREN - Ryan A. Smith, 41, of Warren, IL passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. Ryan was born on January 29, 1973 to Rick and Lynda (Badertscher) Smith. Ryan was a 1991 graduate from Warren High School. He married Karen Grabbe on September 14, 1996 in Warren, IL, together they raised two children. Ryan owned and operated Smitty's Construction for seven years, until his accident in 2011. Ryan was a member of the Apple River Lions Club; he was a football coach in Warren for the Warren/River Ridge Warcats for five years. He enjoyed hunting, doing taxidermist work for a few years, and he loved high school sports, especially the Warren Warriors. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, Illini basketball fan, and a Penn State football fan. Ryan loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a big heart, a warm smile and maintained a positive outlook on life even when his accident left him unable to walk. Ryan is survived by his wife, Karen Smith; two children, Kyle and Hayley Smith, all of Warren, IL; parents, Rick (Lynda) Smith of Apple River, IL; three brothers, Aaron (Cali) Smith, Travis (Tricia) Smith, Jon Smith, all of Warren, IL; nieces and nephews, Lydia, Aleigha, Miranda, Amber, Zach, and Lexie; mother and father-in-law, Darrel (Leslie) Niemann of Stockton, IL; brother in-law, Clark (Erica) Grabbe of Stockton, IL; grandmothers, Shirley Smith of Apple River, IL, and Alice Badertscher of Brodhead, WI; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Stanley Smith and Allard Badertscher. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Apple River Event Center in Apple River, IL. A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Apple River Event Center in Apple River, IL. Mike Cowan will officiate the service. A memorial has been established in his memory.
