ROSE MARIE STALLSMITH PENNINGTON, 73 INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Rose Marie Stallsmith Pennington, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 6, 1940, in Hartford City, IN, to the late Edgar and Louvia Stimax Stallsmith, and spent her childhood growing up in Van Buren, IN. Rose Marie married Don Pennington on January 23, 1960. In addition to her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother, she worked at Eagle Elementary School in Zionsville, IN, Highland Community College in Freeport, IL, and Danville Area Community College in Danville, IL. After returning to the Indianapolis area in 1991, she worked as an active volunteer and humble supporter of numerous organizations including the Warren Tree Fest, Warren Arts & Education Foundation, the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, and the Marion County Fair. Rose Marie was the 2013 recipient of the May Wright Sewall Leadership Award, an honor bestowed upon her by the Propylaeum Educational Foundation of Indianapolis for her outstanding dedication to volunteerism in education and arts. Rose Marie is survived by her loving husband, Don; children, Donna Ryan, Diane Schultz (John), and Dana Nelson (Jeff); grandchildren, Megan, Hannah and Brody Ryan, Brittney, Grant and Maria Schultz, Cameron and Alaina Nelson; great- grandson, Adler; sister, Neta June O'Brien (Paul); and brother, Kenneth Stallsmith; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Stallsmith and her parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Shirley Brother Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Van Buren, IN, cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Arts and Education Foundation (WAEF).
