Mr. Jackson served as Warden for a time at St. Mark's, and also faithfully planted, mulched and weeded the beds around the church with flowering plants to brighten the grounds. Oree's life-long hobby was golf - an interest he picked up at the age of 8 when he would caddy at the Jackson Public Golf Course to earn his own allowance. The bookshelves of his family room held trophies that were conversation starters; he could describe each final game down to the last detail! He was able to play golf until just six months before his passing. Mr. Jackson treasured his membership in the 100 Black Men of Jackson, where he actively participated in community programs and fundraising. He served as a mentor for five young school boys over the years to help them gain the confidence to become successful in school and life.
