Life dedicated to putting other first

Naneen Marie Halwas (Will), 82, of Purcellville, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, July 17, 2022. She was born on May 23, 1940, to Irvin and Dorothy Will (Klug) in West Allis, Wisconsin, and she was the oldest of three children.

She was married to Larry Halwas in 1962 for 20 years and was blessed with three children, Todd, Kay, and Timothy. She was a loving, devoted mother and wife to her family. In 1981, her family moved to Conroe, TX, and she began working for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. During her tenure, Nan established the Victim/Witness Assistance Program, which helped to protect the victim’s rights. Because of her devotion to her job and the victims she served, she was recognized by Governor Bill Clements. She was passionate about helping people and showered them with love and humor. Nan was also an amateur actress and enjoyed participating in productions at the Crighton Theater in Conroe. She retired in 2005 and moved to Greensboro, NC, to be closer to her son and daughter. Nan loved her children and was devoted to her seven grandchildren. She loved telling stories, laughing, and spending time with her family. Nan gave amazing hugs and made a fantastic pot roast. She will be greatly missed.

Nan is survived by her children; Todd and Savanna Halwas of Canton, Georgia; Kay and Daniel Edwards of Purcellville, Virginia; Timothy and Ann Halwas of Dallas, Texas, her grandchildren; Dorothy and Erich Halwas; Hayley, Maddie, and Jonathan Edwards; Max and Jillian Halwas.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Victim/Witness Assistance Program or a favorite charity.
