Monte Carroll Hunt Sr.Age: 87 • Lake MonticelloMonte Carroll Hunt Sr., 87, of Lake Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.    He was born on September 17, 1929, in Charlottesville, a son of the late James Bory and Maggie Belle (Wells) Hunt.     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mazzie; and five brothers, James, Melvin, Clifford, Edward, William, and Filmore.  Monte retired from Smith's Transfer after over 25 years of service as a Truck Driver and later worked at Monticello for 13 years as a Shuttle Bus Driver.  He was a Veteran, having served his country in the United States Army.  He was a member of Unity Church of Charlottesville; the King Solomon Masonic Lodge #194 of Crozet; and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.   Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Hester (Hovatter) Hunt; a son, Monte C. Hunt, Jr. and Tamara Moore of Covesville; a daughter, Susan Gentry and Billy Marshall of Keswick; his former spouse and mother of his children, Martha (Toms) Hunt of Covesville; a brother, Joseph Hunt and wife, Stella of Palmyra; a sister, Martha H. Dalton of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Kristin, Kara, and Megan; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.The family would like to thank all the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Ruth, Valerie, Pamela, and Erin for their loving and compassionate care of Monte during his final days.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville by the Reverends Don and Patricia Lansky.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Woodland Pavilion at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300 Charlottesville, VA 22911; or to the , 1445 Rio Rd E., Suite 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901.Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  Family and friends may share memories and photos at www.thackerbrothers.com.
