Mary Hortense Moore Johnson, 95, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was born on October 16, 1921, to Samuel Henry and Mary Elizabeth Hopper Moore in Tiplersville, MS. Mrs. Johnson graduated from Chalybeate High School and Draughon's Business College in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked in her father's business, W.H. Moore & Son in Tiplersville. On July 10, 1949, she married J.C. Johnson and moved to Greenwood, where he was employed as a pharmacist. While living in Greenwood, she worked in the office of Wallace E. Johnson Home Builders, headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. After the company closed their operations in Greenwood, she worked in the District Office of Gulf Oil Company, located in Greenwood until she moved to West Point where her husband had entered into a partnership to purchase Rose Drug Company in West Point. In 1967, the partnership opened a new pharmacy, Plaza Drugs, in the new shopping center, Point Plaza Shopping Center. In 1973, she and her husband purchased total ownership of the Pharmacy and along with their son, who joined the business in 1984, after graduating from the University of Mississippi Pharmacy School operated the Pharmacy until it was closed in July, 2016. Although she had a full time job helping her husband run the Pharmacy, she found time to participate in various community activities, such as the West Point Junior Auxiliary, the West Point Garden Club, the Mothers March of Dimes and others. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in West Point. Mrs. Johnson was an avid supporter of Little League baseball. She never missed a game that her son played in, including the District Championship Tournament and the State Championship Tournament, played in McComb, MS. She also loved all sports, and was an avid golfer. She was very proud of her Tippah County roots especially Tiplersville, where she grew up. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 26, 2016, in McBride Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Tiplersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. at McBride Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, John Colon "J.C." Johnson of West Point; one son, John M. Johnson (Susan) of Shannon; three grandsons, John Morgan Johnson (Kelly) of Shannon; James Clinton "Jake" Johnson (Katy) and Troy Neal Johnson, both of Memphis, Tennessee; one great-granddaughter, Henley Rose Johnson of Shannon; two sisters, Lillie Horton of Tiplersville; Barbara Martin (Bobby) of Ripley; one brother, Fred Moore (Margaret) of Tiplersville; two sisters-in-law, Grace Moore of Columbia, South Carolina and Betty Moore of Tiplersville. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Lorraine Griffin and Marjorie Hopper; two brothers, Samuel Richard "Dickie" Moore and Britt Moore. Pallbearers will be David Horton, Joe Griffin, Morgan Johnson, Jake Johnson, Troy Johnson, Davey Horton, Cary Childs. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Johnson may be made to: First Baptist Church, 134 E.
