A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Bellwether Church with graveside services following at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Larry was born on November 12, 1950 in Meridian, the son of the late Omah and Katherine Gatewood. He graduated from Wingfield High School and Mississippi College. His 20 year career with the City of Jackson Police Department included assignments as a detective in Vice and Narcotics and the Youth Division. His heart was for children who had been abused, and he considered his work protecting those children a ministry. He was a member of Bellwether Church. After retirement, he worked with AFIMAC, a Security and Crisis Management firm. His work took him all over the U.S., where he made many friends. In 2005, Larry and his wife, Fran, opened When Pigs Fly, an antique, vintage, and collectibles shop, in Olde Towne Clinton. He loved "picking" and traveled the south with his friend, Glynn Pepper, looking for anything unusual he could bring back to the store.More than any of the above, Larry was a "people person" and never met a stranger. He took time for anyone who needed him, and always saw the best in everyone. He cherished spending time with his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, a beloved father and a devoted grandfather to his three grandsons.Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Casey Anne Gatewood and brother, Randy Gatewood. He is survived by his loving wife, Fran Gatewood of Jackson; son, Matt Gatewood (Joan), Lakeland, TN; son, Scott Gatewood (Kassey), Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Trent and Jack Gatewood, Lakeland, TN; McCoy Gatewood, Pittsfield, IL, and sister, Susan Perkins (John), of Brandon; sister-in-law, Susan Terrell (Mark), Tomball, TX, and several nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Raise More, a global missions fund in c/o Bellwether Church, P.O.
