Apr 16, 2017 - Jan 14, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Kerry, 81, of Saginaw, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 with his family by his side at the Cartwright Hospice Residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1935, to Carl and Dorothy Alexander in Sault Ste. Marie. His parents meant the world to Kerry and we are certain that as he entered Heaven they greeted him with big smiles and open arms. Kerry grew up on the banks of the St. Mary's River near the Soo Locks. As a young child he developed a passion for the outdoors – especially fishing. He put himself through seven years of college and law school by working nights, and during the summer months, on the Great Lakes freighters, as a coal passer, deckhand, dishwasher, cook, waiter, and bartender. Kerry attended two years of college at Soo Tech and transferred to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where he graduated in 1957 with a major in political science. He obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1960 from Valparaiso University School of Law. While at Valpo, Kerry met the love of his life, Marleen, at the local Dairy Queen. They were married Jan. 2, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. by Marleen's father, the Rev. Ernest T. Blau. Kerry joined the U.S. Army in 1961 and he served for three years as a lieutenant and later as a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. Stationed on Governors Island in the harbor of New York City, he prosecuted numerous felony cases, receiving the Army's Commendation Medal for outstanding service. In 1964, Kerry and Marleen moved back to Michigan, when Kerry was hired as a law clerk to Justice Paul Adams on the Michigan Supreme Court. In the mid 1960's, Kerry began working as an associate attorney at Cicinelli, Mossner, Majoros and Harrigan, P.C., where he quickly developed a reputation as a gifted courtroom advocate for injured victims throughout Michigan. Kerry was a founding partner of the law firm of Mossner, Majoros & Alexander, PC, where he specialized for decades exclusively in plaintiff personal injury cases. Kerry served as president of the Saginaw County Bar Association and he was a frequent guest lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Education and the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association. After settling in Saginaw, Kerry and Marleen raised three children: Kathy, David and Kristen. Throughout his life, Kerry loved sports. He was a tennis champion while in college at Augustana and continued playing most of his adult life. He was an avid Red Wings and Tigers fan. Kerry had a commanding tenor voice and enjoyed singing in church choirs and at college. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the cottage in East Tawas where he enjoyed sailing and heated cribbage matches. Kerry was an excellent salmon and trout fisherman and loved trailering his boat to fish at various ports of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Kerry was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing. Kerry was blessed with an engaging and uplifting personality and always tried to make each person that he interacted with feel special and important. He lived a full and exciting life and his family is comforted with the understanding that they will one day be eternally reunited with this wonderful man in Heaven.Surviving are his wife, Marleen, of Saginaw; three children, Kathy (Jill Fogg) of Ann Arbor, David (Catherine) of Saginaw and Kristen of New London, Conn.; two grandchildren, Benjamin Weber and Olivia Weber of New London; three sisters, Joan Luoma of Midland, Gail (Dick) Olsund of Marquette and Noel Alexander of Sault Ste. Marie; as well as many other family members and friends. Kerry's family would also like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Shields Comfort Care, St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center, the Cartwright Center and Marie Kurzer for the compassion and kindness they showed Kerry throughout his difficult illness.A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Road, Saginaw.
