KENNETH L. WOOD, 97 MT. CARROLL - Kenneth L. Wood, age 97 of Mt. Carroll, IL., died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mt, Carroll. Kenneth was born on February 2, 1918, the son of Eugene and Mary (Keller) Wood in Woodland Township, rural Mt. Carroll. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1936. Kenneth married Irene Knoess on May 17, 1941 in Fairhaven Township. Irene died on April 29, 2006. Kenneth was born and raised on the family farm. Farming was in his blood, Kenneth farmed the family farm his entire life. He also worked as a carpenter. Kenneth was a past Director for the Mt. Carroll Mutual Insurance Company, past Trustee for Woodland Township, and served as a Trustee for the Mt. Carroll Fire Protection District. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, Mt. Carroll. After retirement, Kenneth enjoyed woodworking, reading and watching sports. As a youth, Kenneth enjoyed raising and showing Shropshire sheep at 4-H shows and local fairs. Kenneth is survived by one cousin, Harlan Diehl of Phoenix, Arizona; and several other cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; and two cousins, Marion Zejmowascy and Harold Engelking. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Reverend Jack Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
