Funeral services for James Roosevelt Marable, age 80, of Wedowee will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 1:00 PM from Christian Memorial Church with Bro. Henry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. Mr. Marable will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.

Mr. Marable passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at Roanoke Healthcare.

Survivors include his wife Debra Ann Marable of Wedowee; five daughters, Veronica Wright of Opelika, AL, Marylin M. Parker of Wedowee, Ruby Traylor of Wedowee, Linda Chambers of Atlanta, GA, and Kim Knight of Dayton, OH; six sons, James Garyon Marable of Atlanta, GA, Timothy Marable of Wedowee, Demetrius Marable of Wedowee, Earl Pogue of Roanoke, Tyson Marable of Wedowee, and Tyler R. Marable of Wedowee; 32 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Billy Marable and Oscar Marable, both of Wedowee.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Marable’s nephews and grandchildren.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Marable was born on March 13, 1936, the son of Roosevelt and Henretta Nelson Marable. He was a member of Weather’s Heights Church of Christ and worked a mail transporter for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Marable was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Henry Bailey; four sisters; and two brothers.
