James Evans , 94, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed on May 16, 2023. James was born on October 25, 1928. IN LOVING MEMORY

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me" II Timothy 4: 6-9

James Evans was born October 15th 1928 in Jackson, Mississippi to Gilbert Manning and Addie Mae Smith who preceded him in death. 

At an early age he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at New Pisgah M.B. Church in Crystal Springs, MS. In 1947 he changed his membership to St. James Baptist Church and eventually in 1949 moved his membership to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS.

James was a 1951 graduate of Lanier High School, after which he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1957. He moved to Chicago in August of 1963 where he eventually was employed as a United States Postal Worker for 33 years until he retired in 1995.

James married Ruth Flood in 1955 but the marriage was dissolved in 1963. He later was joined in holy matrimony to former Gwen Denise July 1, 1974 and lived in marital bliss for 41 years until her death on September 2, 2015.

He leaves behind to cherish memories his daughter Barbara Evans, grandson, Glenn Howard Posten, his sister, Virgie Austin, six nieces and nephews, grandnieces/nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
