Frederick Peter Miska, 79, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, went home to the Lord on January 21, 2024. He was born on July 18, 1944 in Long Island, New York to Wilbur Peter Miska and Constance Frances Miska. 

After graduating from General Douglas MacArthur high school in 1962, Fred attended Nassau Community College and graduated from The King’s College with a degree in History. He attended Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon and the Summer Institute of Linguistics in North Dakota. He obtained his Masters degree in Career Counseling from Amberton University while living in Dallas, Texas.  

For over 25 years, Fred worked as a missionary and Bible translator for Wycliffe Bible Translators. From 1976-1985, Fred lived on the Crow Reservation in Pryor, Montana. Fred and his Wycliffe team translated the New Testament and in so doing, assisted in the creation of a written language for the Crow Nation. After leaving Wycliffe, Fred worked for Hope for the Heart Ministry in Dallas, Texas until he retired in April 2010.  

In 1990, Fred married his beloved Jackie whom he had met while they both worked for Wycliffe and they enjoyed 17 beautiful years together. He and Jackie were steadfast fans of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.  

Fred enjoyed swimming and working out at the gym. He also enjoyed driving around to see the sights and then walking around and sitting on various park benches to relish in the beauty of God’s creations. He enjoyed photographing nature and sneakily capturing family moments. Fred was known for his silliness, for being a prankster, and for his genuine smile. Fred had a deep love for Jesus and a daily devotion to biblical study and prayer.  

Fred is survived by his children Richard Miska and John Miska; his stepchildren, Paulette Rice and Gayle Eimer; his sisters, Nancy C. Newman, Jean C. DeVre, and Deborah M. Beck; his brother, James F. Guariglia (Lisa); his grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Conor, Torin, Kashina, Bobby, Summer, and Josalyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.  

Fred was predeceased by his parents, Wilbur P. Miska, Constance F. Miska; his daughter, Sarah Miska; his beloved wife Jacquelyn H. Miska, his son-in-law Timothy Eimer; and his brother-in-law John H. Newman.
