In Loving Memory of Doris Washington

Doris (Wideman) Washington was born in Chicago Illinois, February 4th, 1929 to the union of James and Daisy Wideman. Doris was the second oldest of seven siblings.

Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She developed a lifetime relationship with God at the St. Stephen A.M.E. Church.  Doris also met her lifetime love Edward Washington Jr. at St. Stephens Church and on July 17th, 1954  joined in matrimony to Edward Washington Jr.  They were married for 58 years until Ed preceded her in death on March 12th, 2012. To this union were born two children: Edward Washington III and Keith Washington.

Doris was a lifetime member of the St. Stephen A.M.E. Gospel Choir and also participated in many of the church activities.  As Doris prioritized her relationship with Jesus Christ she also found time to pour out her love while helping others.

Doris had many roles in her life: wife, Mom, caretaker to (parents, in-laws, siblings, nieces, nephews), licensed cosmetologist, Cub Scout Den Mother, Avon Sales representative, full-time homemaker, driving instructor for her sons, basketball mom to Edward, music-organ/piano mom to Keith, and also a defender of her children when there were altercations in the neighborhood (smile).

Doris was a fighter that overcame many of this life’s struggles and fought the good fight of faith until the very end of her life here on earth.  Now the fight in this life has ended and she has joined her husband Ed with Jesus in heaven. She leaves to cherish: Edward (Bernice) Washington III,  Keith (O’Neia) Washington, 1 sister: Blanche (Albert) Mangram, 1 brother: JC Wideman, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

1 Timothy 6:12 King James Version (KJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
