DARWIN G. MORHARDT, 81 ORANGEVILLE - Darwin G. Morhardt, 81, of Orangeville passed away August 6, 2014 in Freeport, IL. Darwin was born on December 17, 1932 in Mount Carroll, IL to Gustave and Lillian (Dale) Morhardt. On October 14, 1967, Darwin married Darlene (Mays) Taft in Orangeville, IL. He graduated from Mount Carroll High School in 1951. He then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956. Darwin farmed and was a barber for over 50 years. Darwin was a member of the Orangeville United Methodist Church, American Legion McConnell Post # 1225. He served as the Oneco Township supervisor and was a volunteer fireman for the Orangeville Fire Department. Darwin was a "jack of all trades" and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Darwin is survived by his wife, Darlene of Orangeville; daughter, Darby Morhardt of Chicago, IL; sons, Darwin, Jr. (Mindy) Morhardt of Lena, IL, Garland (Julie) Morhardt of Freeport, IL, Ronald (Kim) Morhardt of Rockford, IL; Step-son, Mike (Jane) Taft of Lena, IL and Rick Taft of Ft. Myers, FL; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Darlene Streicher of Elizabeth, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald "Gus" Morhardt; and one sister, Evelyn Morhardt. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating will be Pastor Judy Sherk and Pastor Bill Bloomberg. Burial will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
