DANIEL 'DAN' L. HOY, 72 EAST DUBUQUE - Daniel "Dan" L. Hoy, 72, of East Dubuque, formerly of Stockton, IL died at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa on Thursday, June 12, 2014 after a long series of strokes that started in October of 2013. Dan was born on May 16, 1942 in Nora, IL at home, the son of Alfred Joseph and Margaret Ellen (Graves) Hoy. He started working at the age of 6 on the Hoy family farm in Stockton. A graduate of Stockton High School, he furthered his studies with a focus on Engineering at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Dan turned his passion for fast cars into the favorite career of his lifetime. He was the proud owner/operator of Hoy Ford Garage in Lena, IL in the 1970's and early 1980's. Dan married Mary Thompson on August 18, 1989 after a five year courtship. Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter, Jennifer Hoy of Woodridge, IL; his step-daughters, Dee Ann Deaton, Tammy (Tim) Freisinger both of East Dubuque, and Danielle (Noller) VenHuizen of Apple River; a step-son, Dana (Debra) Noller of Stockton. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Adam Deaton, Heather and Tanner Freisinger all of East Dubuque, and Austin, Jacob and Tyler VenHuizen of Apple River; his brother, Richard (Donna) Hoy of Conowingo, Maryland; and an uncle, Rodney (Jeanne) Graves of Pahrump, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald (Cheryl) Hoy of Kent, IL. Dan's family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for the care provided to Dan and the support given to his family. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque.
