William Edward Lightfoot, 80, of Hernando, FL passed away November 5, 2016. He was born on June 18, 1936 in Sylvester, GA to Ruth Reynolds & Edward Lightfoot. Bill was raised in Macon Georgia until enlisting in the service at 16. A true patriot, he entered the Army reserves first, and then enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years, then enlisted in the Navy for the remainder of his service career until he retired. During his years of service, Bill was on many air-craft carriers, his first and most favorite being the USS Saratoga. He completed two tours in Vietnam, as a "river runner" during the Vietnam War, and was preceded in death by many of his shipmates. He retired from the US Navy on November 16, 1975 after 20 years of faithful service. In his second career, he graduated from the College of Central Florida as a Nuclear Heath Tech, and traveled and worked in the Nuclear Power Industry for many years.He was a member of Gulf to Lake Baptist Church, and a former member of the Christian Progression Center, as well as a member of the VFW post in Crystal River. Bill was also a private pilot and enjoyed racking in his flight time. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Nellie Sue Dias Lightfoot, one brother Mac Lightfoot, one sister Mary Lightfoot-Sisk, and his niece Lisa Sisk.He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law Marlon & Michael Felton, and son William Lightfoot; grandchildren Jillian & Meghan Felton; one future great-grandchild due in 2017; 3 nieces Susan Lehman, Cynthia Anne King, and Mandy Murphree, 2 nephews Michael Dias and Lonnie Sears as well as 5 great nieces and 8 great nephews.Visitation will be held from 9AM until service time at 11AM at Gulf to Lake Baptist Church in Crystal River. Burial with full military honors will be held graveside at Stage Stand Cemetery in Homosassa, immediately following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto.
