Viola CarrollViola Carroll of Sioux Falls, died peacefully on October 12th at Sanford Hospital while surrounded by her family.Vi was born on May 5, 1955 to Edward and Betty Crowell. She attended Cathedral School and graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1973. She began working at then Sioux Valley Hospital as a surgery technician. Within a few years Vi knew she wanted to be a nurse. Vi then went back to school and became a licensed Practical Nurse and resumed her career at Sioux Valley Hospital. In 1986, Vi again went back to school while working full time to work on her Registered Nurse degree. She graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1989. Vik retired from Sanford Health in 2007 due to health reasons.Viola married Jon Carroll in 1978 and had two children, Melissa (Chris) Breen and James Carroll. Preceding Vi in death were her parents, sister Amelia Rose and brother Robert. Vi is survived by her husband, two children and one sister Cathy (Bruce) Finn and several nieces and nephews. The family also recognizes Vi's very good friend and caretaker, Connie Grassel.In her free time, Vi loved to spend time on the family's boat on the Missouri River, where she enjoyed boating, swimming, tubing and fishing. Vi's family was the utmost importance to her and seemed to create a special relationship with her niece, Angie and great nieces, Paige and Kaelie. Vi was a dedicated wife and mother who would do anything to support her husband, daughter, son and extended family.A visitation will be at Heritage Funeral home on Monday, October 16th with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The rite of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Heritage Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at a later date. www.heritagesfsd.com.
