Shirley Jean Polke CoxShirley Jean Polke Cox was born on November 16, 1936 in Natchitoches, LA. She grew up in Provencal, LA where she attended high school, then attended business school. She moved to Shreveport, LA in 1955 where she worked for the phone company several years. She worked in the accounting department at LSU Medical Center where she retired after 27 years. Shirley and John Cox were married on July 19, 1957. She passed away on March 4, 2017 at the age of 80. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents Robert Elmer Polke and Gertrude Stetary Davis Polke, one daughter Paula Lynne Cox and her husband of 58 years, John Paul Cox.Left to cherish her memory are her sons David C. Cox of Monroe, LA and Robert P. Cox with daughter-in-law Beverly Stewart Cox of Rockwall, TX, grandchildren Jessica Cox and Zachary Cox of West Monroe, LA, Wesley Cox with wife Emilee of Rockwall, TX and Samantha Cox of Rockwall, TX, great grandchildren Emilia Jolie Cox of Monroe, LA, Levi Paul Cox of Rockwall, TX and Liam Ricks of West Monroe, LA, one sister Bobbie Kile of Huntsville, TX and one sister-in-law Gayle Polke of Keithville, LA. Shirley was a faithful member of Kingston Road Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA where she sang in the choir— one of her favorite pastimes. Cross stitching and quilting are the other hobbies that she enjoyed.
