Sharon MathiesenSharon R. Mathiesen, age 78, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Canton Good Samaritan Society. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14 at Bethany Reformed Church in Canton, SD. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m., family present 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. Sharon was born on September 21, 1939 in Viborg, SD to Ray and Erma (Hansen) Hattervig. She graduated from Viborg High School in 1957. She married James Mathiesen on August 3, 1957. The couple lived in Sioux Falls, Worthing, Harrisburg, Custer, and moved to Canton in 2003. They wintered in Arizona for 13 years. Sharon worked in the Custer County Treasurer's Office for 10 years and retired from the Lincoln County Treasurer's Office after 20 years of service. She enjoyed card club, camping, reading, and having coffee with the retired courthouse ladies. Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of 60 years, James; children, Tim (Shelly) Mathiesen, Canton, SD, Tom (Becky) Mathiesen, Hudson, SD, and Terri (Bill) Fink, Harrisburg, SD; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Jackson; brother-in-law, Bob Mathiesen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
