Ruth Lucetta (Gale) RussellZANESVILLE: Ruth Lucetta (Gale) Russell, 100, of Zanesville, went to be with her Lord on Thursday October 8, 2015 in the care of Willow Haven Nursing Home and Genesis Hospice. Ruth was born on November 27, 1914 in Springfield Township, Zanesville a daughter of the late Rev. Floyd and Helen (Williams) Gale. Ruth graduated from Lash High School in 1933. She was married to Robert (Flick) Russell on May 2, 1936 in Springfield, Ohio by Rev. Gale. Ruth was a charter member of the South Zanesville Church of the Nazarene since October 17, 1930. She served her church at age 15 with a girls Sunday School class, in the Home Department, in hospitals from 1935-1937, she headed the Cradle Roll in the 1950's with 17 mothers and 21 babies, and was a steward in the church for several years. She loved sending cards of encouragement to many people. Ruth served as a 4-H advisor for 17 years (Pinkerton Lane Sew-n-Sew). She was a charter member of the Valley View Garden Club. Ruth and Flick enjoyed antique car parts flea markets in Carlisle and Hershey, PA, Florida, and other locations. They had a group of friends along the way at these events. Ruth decorated Easter candy at F. W. Woolworth's, worked part time at J. C. Penney's, and was a cook for Maysville School District. She was an excellent cook and was known for her homemade noodles and pies. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Martha (Keith) Greiner of Zanesville; grandsons, Christopher of Zanesville and Matthew (Amy) of London, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Carson, and Kiersten; two brothers, Louis E. Gale of Powell and Floyd (Ruth) Gale of California; many loving nieces, nephews, and church family friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert (Flick) Russell; two daughters, Sara Elizabeth and Judith Ann in 1955; two sisters, Grace (Clarence) Hartsough and Esther (Sam) Munn; one brother, Robert died in infancy; one sister-in-law, Betty Gale. Ruth loved the Lord, her family, her church family, her Pinkerton Lane friends and neighbors, and was a loving caregiver when possible. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday October 12, 2015 at WILLIAM THOMPSON & SON FUNERAL HOME 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 13, 2015 at Unity Church of the Nazarene (South Zanesville Campus) with Pastor Walter Gessner officiating. Ruth will be laid to rest beside her husband Robert in Woodlawn Cemetery.
