We are saddened to announce the passing of Richard Butler. He was born on November 20, 1944, and passed away peacefully at his home May 25, 2024, in Laurel, Delaware.

Richard, affectionately known as Cowboy, was the beloved son of Russell and Sophia Butler. He was married to his devoted wife, Patricia Dashiell Butler, in 2015. Together they had 6 daughters, Lee Ann Johnson (Earl), Rebecca Castelletti (Steve), Mesha Cortilesso (Gary), Trina Cibor (Jack), Marcie Dashiell (Jeremy), Nikki Dashiell (Josh).

He was survived by Joyce Lovelace (sister). He was preceded in death by Mary Ann Butler (wife), Chrissy Butler (wife), Russell & Sophia Butler (parents), and Clement Butler (brother).

Richard was a proud graduate of Oxford High School, class of 1962. After high school, he bravely served his country in the Army for 20 years with 2 tours to Vietnam, demonstrating his commitment to duty and honor.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including reading, gardening, fishing, taking care of his chickens, riding his trike, creating horseshoe sculptures and collecting painted ponies. Also, you could find him proudly wearing his neat collection of belt buckles, cowboy hats and boots.

Richard Butler, a strong God-fearing man, leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, as well as eight cherished grandchildren, Robert Johnson & Erika Bilodeau, Abigail, Isabella & Gabriella Castelletti, Olivia & Mark Cortilesso, Zaria Hunt and 2 great grandchildren, Elias Bilodeau & Levi Johnson. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest in peace, Richard. We know you have received your heavenly cowboy hat. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
