Richard L. LoganNORTH CANTON: Richard "Dick" Leroy Logan, of North Canton, passed away early Sunday morning, November 27, just hours after watching his beloved Buckeyes beat "That Team Up North." He was 86 years old. Dick was born on May 4, 1930 in Mansfield, OH, to Frank and Pearl Logan. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Carl Walther. He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Gloria; children Amy Walther of North Canton, Jeff (Dena) of Dublin, OH, Jud (Jill) of Ashland, OH, Whitney (Karen) of Upper Arlington, OH and Andy (Dede) of North Canton; grandchildren Katie, Christopher (Erin Roesch), Nathan (Cheryl), Jenna (Winston Ally), Kirsten, Caroline, Melanie, Danny, Cameron, Taylor and Drew; great-grandchildren Peyton, Mason and Declan; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Hellinger, of Pittsburgh, PA.Dick was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, where he was later inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame. He attended The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the football team, playing lineman for Coach Woody Hayes. He played in the legendary "Snow Bowl" at Ohio Stadium in 1950. He was also a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. After graduating from OSU in 1952, he went on to play in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers and was a member of the United States Air Force.Dick worked for the Canton AAA as a sales manager and, in 1975, founded Logan Sports in North Canton. He coached North Canton South midget league football for 20 years, winning multiple championships. For many years, he was head of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's transportation committee. He was a proud member of Ohio State's Varsity "O" Alumni Association. For many years, he supported the efforts of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Young Life.Dick spent the "fourth quarter" of his life playing golf and petting every dog in sight. Just last week, he saw his son, Jud, speak to the HOF Luncheon Club; spent Thanksgiving with 25 family members; and watched Ohio State defeat Michigan in a double overtime thriller. Up until the day he died, Dick exercised daily at the North Canton YMCA, where he had many friends. Throughout his life, he continued to receive autograph requests and letters in the mail from football fans.He was most proud of his children for embodying Woody Hayes' "pay forward" mission by their founding of the Logan Family Foundation in 2004, which provides charitable funds for children and families in North Canton, Ashland and central Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. NW, Canton, from 2-5 pm, followed immediately by a celebration of life. Reception to follow at the North Canton YMCA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Logan Family Foundation: 8405 Arbory Hill Ct, Dublin, OH, 43017.
