A Life Well Lived

Peter Martin Menard of New Orleans, LA; formerly of Oxon Hill, MD, passed away on November 7, 2019 at the New Orleans Veterans Hospital at the age of 65 years.

Peter was born February 11, 1954 to Ellen Marie Martin Menard and Edward James Menard. Born in South Bend, Indiana and then relocated soon after to Oxon Hill, Maryland. He was one of nine siblings. He graduated from Oxon Hill High School and then entered the U.S. Navy where he served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he spent much of his life in the Roofing and Siding Business before becoming a restauranteur up until he retired.

He had a wandering soul, travelled, and moved fluidly throughout his life with no boundaries. He was someone who truly loved city living. He was a lover of baseball and playing pool and spending time with friends and family. He was an excellent guitar player among many other talents. He never met a stranger and his charisma was unmistakable.

He is survived by his three children, Kristen Kreuter (Menard) (William, son-in-law), Nicole Menard, and Thomas Bailey, along with four grandchildren, Tyler, Owen, William Jr., and Wyatt. He is also survived by five sisters; Anne Menard, Madeleine Svane, Margaret Menard Clayton, Paula Decker, Cecilia Menard and two brothers; Thomas Menard and Gregory Menard, with a large extended family of seventeen nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother Ellen Menard; father Edward Menard, Sister Mary Reingruber (Menard), and nephews Sean Reingruber and Timothy Clayton.

The memorial service will be held at Cheltenham National Cemetary, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham MD 20623 on January 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow at The American Legion Post 238 at 6265 Brandywine Rd, Hughesville, MD 20637.
