Paul Martin Lutzke, 91, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at his home in Rochester. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 2124 Viola Road NE, Rochester, with the Rev. Fred Rengstorf officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. A private family burial service will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Paul was born on Jan. 8, 1925, in Elroy, Wis., the son of the Rev. Paul and Selma (Heubner) Lutzke. He attended Wisconsin public schools, graduating from Prairie du Chien High School, and then machinist training school in Platteville, Wis. He worked as a machinist for Allis Chalmers Mfg. of Milwaukee, Wis. Paul later continued his formal education by attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., graduating with a bachelor of arts degree. On Dec. 28, 1947, Paul married Genevieve Simonson in Grand Forks, N.D. He taught high school at Goodridge, Minn., before joining Simonson Woodworkers in Alexandria, Minn., and became a master cabinetmaker. After professional training, Paul worked as an executive for the Boy Scouts of America, serving councils from Valley City, N.D., Moorhead, Minn., Minneapolis, and Rochester. His major forte was scout camp operation, serving as commissary director at Wilderness Camp near Park Rapids, Minn., and Camp Director of Camp Hok-Si-La at Lake City. Upon leaving the scouting profession, Paul joined the Johnson Printing Co. of Rochester as a sales representative until his retirement in 1987. Kiwanis was a major interest in Paul's life, having been a member 55 years. He filled many club offices, including president of the Rochester Downtown Club, the Rochester Golden "K" Club and as lieutenant governor of southeast Minnesota. He was a life member, received the National Legion of Honor Award and the Hixon Award. Other community affiliations included board president of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, a Channel One food shelf volunteer and membership in Sons of Norway. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and playing cards. He also treasured the many fun trips he took throughout the U.S. and the world with his wife, family and friends. Paul is survived by his wife, Genevieve; four sons, Paul E. (Linda) Lutzke of Maple Lake, Minn., Steven M. (Gayla) Lutzke of Allen, Texas, David L. (Diane) Lutzke of Plainview, and Timothy M. (Lori) Lutzke of Rochester; one daughter, Susan M. Lutzke-Hoff (Cynthia Alverado) of Portland, Ore.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beata Elizabeth Eyssautier. Memorials are preferred to Channel One of Rochester. Flowers may be delivered directly to Our Saviors Church, 2124 Viola Road NE, Rochester, on Monday, Dec. 19, or prior to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
