Norman Lee Carter, Jr., son of Norman Lee, Sr. and Charlie Mae Carter departed this life Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born March 16, 1951, at Martin Army Hospital in Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Norman was affectionately known as “Jeer”, “Frizzy”, “Bubba”, and “J.R.”. He attended Pemberton Township High School in Pemberton, NJ. During his formative years, he lived in Denver, Colorado he desired to return to Denver, but settled in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was a free spirit and marched to the beat of his own drum. Norman was an extremely kind, loving, and protective man. He was an avid and competitive billiards player. He also loved to sing and harmonize doo-wop, and did it well with a falsetto pitch! He dressed fashionably and had a swagger about him when he walked, it was like both a stroll and a strut, sometimes swinging his arm. When he stood still, he posed. There was J.R. Ewing and then there was J.R. Carter…no comparison.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Norman and Charlie Mae Carter. He leaves to honor his memory, his sons, Lemont Carter (Kansas City), Johnathan Norman and Jason Lee Carter (Colorado); his daughters, Ileia Muhammad (Georgia) and Zabrina Jackson (Colorado); his grandchildren, Malik, Dietrick, Shamir, Davaughn, Omera, Sanari, Zynn and Niyah; his brother, Bruce Carter (Robin); sisters, Cheryl McLeod, LaGina Gray (John), Sandrena Carter, and LaDonya Jones; a special aunt, Rubynell Smith; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends.
