Melbourne "Mel" Bryan Kirkeeng, 86, of Rochester passed away on Nov. 25, 2016, due to an auto accident. Mel was born on Nov. 5, 1930, to Mengel and Emma (Bakken) Kirkeeng in La Crosse, Wis. He graduated from Cashton, Wis. His last 14 years of work was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where he retired in November 1992. He enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends and doing the things he loved. Mel is survived by his sister, Ruth Jewson of Rochester; brother, Manley (Vernice) Kirkeeng of La Crosse; brother, Lyle (Josephine) of Janesville, Wis.; sister, Donna Wilson of Joliet, Ill.; brother, David (Beverly) Kirkeeng of Rochester; many nieces, nephews; and many very dear friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mengel and Emma Kirkeeng, brothers Muriel, Dennis, Lew, and Malcolm, and sister Hazel Dietz. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Macken Funeral Home River Park Chapel in Rochester. A private burial for family is planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at at the Fish Creek Cemetery in Rockland, Wis. Memorials preferred to Ronald McDonald House of Rochester.
