Martha HoldenAge: 84 • BridgewaterMartha Lee Holden, 84, of Bridgewater, VA.  passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.She was born on July 30, 1932, and was the daughter of the late David Elmer and Mary Grogg Crum of the Bull Creek area of Parnassus. She graduated from North River High School in 1950.On January 26, 1957, she married Robert Holden, who survives. Bob and Martha owned and operated Bear Trap Farm in Mt. Solon where they, along with their sons, received and served countless guests from 1976 until 2014. Martha was the head cook and delighted guests with her scrumptious cooking. Her family was especially fond of her breads and desserts.Martha also helped her husband with his income tax business in Bridgewater for 28 years. He considered her his "Gal Friday". She previously worked for People's Drug Store in Staunton and a sales associate at Leggett Department store. She also worked at Shenandoah Valley Electric Coop where she was a switchboard operator.Martha loved gardening and had a green thumb. Her plants, vegetables and flowers flourished under her care and were entered into the county fair exhibits. She enjoyed attending auctions and loved collecting and restoring antiques. Guests at her home and at Bear Trap Farm marveled over her decorating skills.Martha loved music and loved the Lord. She was a member of the Bridgewater United Methodist Church and was a faithful member of the choir from 1966-2014.Surviving besides her husband Robert are her sons whom she supported and loved. Bill and wife Donna of Harrisonburg, Chris and wife Natasha of Massanutten, and Keith and wife Kim of Mt. Solon. Her biggest blessings were her grandchildren, Derek, Megan, Blake, and Allee Holden; and one step grandson Dennis Digalov.Martha was the third of five siblings and is survived by Flora Mae Gay and husband Sam of Mt. Solon, Bill Crum and wife Carol Bruce of Parnassus, Roy Crum and wife Bertha of Stuarts Draft, Jake Crum and wife Martha of Churchville, VA.Rev.  Stephen Creech, Rev. Jim Harris and Rev. Jim Tongue will conduct a memorial service Sunday , January 8, 2017 at  3:00 PM. at Bridgewater United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests following the memorial service.  At her request, the body has been cremated.
