This obituary is administered by:
Kozich, Margaret EllenSalisbury, MD-Margaret Ellen Kozich died on Tuesday May 2, 2017 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. She had made her home in Salisbury with her daughter and son-in-law Margaret Ann [Peggy] and Alan Selser for the past 12 years. She was 98 years of age and would have celebrated her 99th birthday on May 28, 2017.She was born on May 28, 1918 in Federalsburg, MD. Her birth parents were Laura Baker and Albert F. Lyons. Her biological parents died when she was a child, and she was raised by George and Edith Johnson of Federalsburg whom she called "mom and pop". She married Charles E. Kozich on December 4, 1942 and they built their home on Morris Ave in Federalsburg where they resided until Mr. Kozich's passing in September of 2000 and Mrs. Kozich's subsequent move in 2005 to Salisbury. Their only child was Margaret Ann [Peggy] Kozich Selser.During her husband's service in the US army during WWII, Ellen was employed by the Excelsior Pearl Works in Federalsburg. Following Mr. Kozich's discharge from the Army and the birth of their daughter in 1945, she became a "stay at home" mom and care giver to Mrs. Johnson (her mom) who lived with Charles, Ellen and Peggy, and to Mr. Charles Kozich, her husband's father. She was an immaculate housekeeper and a wonderful cook; she enjoyed preserving vegetables from her husband's garden. She played piano and liked reading to her daughter. Later in life, she became an avid reader herself, sometimes reading at least 4 books a week even at the age of 95. She also liked keeping in touch with friends and relatives by practicing the almost lost art of letter writing. She always loved cats and became "grandma" to Peggy and Alan's cats, Marshall, Bisque, and Zak.She made sure her daughter had a religious upbringing, took piano and organ lessons, and received a good education. Ellen was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Federalsburg and the Federalsburg Branch of the Caroline County Library.Besides her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by a niece and her husband, Diane and Don Grimm and their three children, a nephew Hayward [Bunk] Lyons and a step-grandson Alan Selser Jr. and his family. Besides her parents and her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by sister-in-law Ella Hackett and her husband Harry, her sister and brother-in-law Hilda and Earl Cary, her brother and sister-in-law Hayward and Yvonne Lyons and other relatives and dear friends.A visitation with the family at Framptom Funeral Home will begin at 12 noon on May 8 followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. The Officiant will be Bill Sterling, Visitation Pastor, Asbury United Methodist Church, Salisbury. Interment will be private at Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg where Ellen will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Charles.Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or to Christ United Methodist Church, PO Box 234, Federalsburg, MD 21632.The family would like to express its gratitude to the exceptional caregivers at Coastal Hospice who compassionately and lovingly cared for her at her home, especially Jennifer and Angie.Arrangements are being handled by the Framptom Funeral Home, PA, 216 North Main St, Federalsburg MD.
