Louis Benjamin Cowen, Jr.Lafayette - A Funeral Service will be celebrated Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Louis Benjamin Cowen, Jr., 67, who passed away at 3:20 pm, Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette of an unexpected and massive stroke.Visitation will be observed on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and resumes Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 8:00 am until the time of services at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.Louie was born on Sunday, May 7, 1950 in New Orleans and graduated high school there from St. John Vianney Prep in 1968. After high school he attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and while attending began his career in radio as a disc jockey at various stations including KROF, KPEL, and KVOL. In the 70s he joined KSMB, moving through a variety of roles before becoming general manager of the station in 1985. After several years managing KXKC, Lou left broadcasting and became a Realtor, ultimately finding a home at Coldwell Banker Pelican Real Estate where he worked for 10+ years until his death last Thursday. He enjoyed photography, attending local sporting events and was an avid golfer and bowler, and was a founding member of the Obituary Hat Club. He was also a skilled chess and pool player. He was devoted to the city of Lafayette and made his life there from college on. He is survived by his two sons, Don Louis Cowen of New York City, New York and Charles Douglas Cowen and his wife, Amanda of Baton Rouge; one grandson, Archer of Baton Rouge; one sister, Marlene Rickerson and her husband, Jeff; one nephew, Jason and his wife Jennifer, all of Gramercy; his girlfriend, Minnie Hickman; his former wife, Karen Cowen, all of Lafayette and numerous other nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. Louie was preceded in death by his parents Louis Benjamin, Sr. & Doltress Gaubert Cowen and his grandparents, SA & Pauline Cowen and Theophile & Valerie Gaubert.Louie made friends wherever he went and everyone whose lives he touched or who he was touched by is warmly invited to participate in his final farewell.Online obituary and guestbook may be viewed at www.fountainmemorialfuneralhome.com.Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1010 Pandora Street, 337-981-7098 is in charge of arrangements.
