Kenneth R. (Ken) Rollin, age 72, of Eaton, Colo. died Monday, March 15, 2010 surrounded by his wife and two sons.He was born on Aug. 23, 1937 in Detroit and adopted at three months old by Harold and Alice Rollin of Tawas City.After graduating from Tawas Area High School in 1955, he married Joan Andress of East Tawas on June 13, 1959. During his years in Tawas, Ken was a catcher on a semi-pro baseball team with his brother and father.Upon his graduation from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in geology, he joined Martin Marietta Cement and Lime Division where he worked from 1964 to 1970. During his time with Martin, Ken and his family were transferred to Longmont, Colo.In 1970, Ken joined Ken Bruns and Associates as a professional civil engineer. In 1972, he became a part owner and a founder of Rocky Mountain Consultants, a consulting engineering firm located in Longmont.He also was a member and Chairman of the State of Colorado Water Well Examiners Board from 1986 to 1994.During this time, he was an avid golfer and gardener, and played on numerous softball teams with his two sons until he was 45 years old.In 1994, Ken started his own consulting engineering firm, Rollin Consulting. He was sole owner of the company and enjoyed working on projects for his clients up to the present.In 2001, Ken and his wife moved to Eaton where he continued his consulting business. While in Eaton, he attended Faith Lutheran Church and was currently attending the First Congregational Church of Eaton. He also made many great friends while continuing to golf and garden. Many friends and family spoke of his unique sense of humor and he was always ready with a joke or humorous story to share.Ken was an avid Broncos, Rockies and Avalanche fan and enjoyed watching and supporting his sons in their sports activities.In his later years, he loved to hear about his grandsons' sports endeavors. Throughout his life, Ken had a special love for his numerous dogs and spoke of them often to his family and friends.He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; his two sons, Kurt of Milliken, Colo. and Kent (Marie) of Hawthorne, N.J.; his three grandsons, Joe, KJ and Patrick; his two brothers, Herman (Nancy) Rollin of East Tawas and Howard (Carolyn) of Mount Pleasant; his sister, Ruth (Gil) Floyd, of Bay City; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dachshunds, Sammye and Moses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alice Rollin; and his numerous dogs.A memorial service to celebrate Ken's life was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 19 at First Congregational Church of Eaton/Ault in Eaton.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Weld County Humane Society, or the First Congregational Church of Eaton in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
