Kathleen "Kathy" Tapia, 72, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016. She was born on July 15, 1943, to the late Pete Madrid and Ursula Alire Montoya. Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved aunt, Dolores "Lola" Alire.Kathy was a strong, amazing woman whose heart overflowed with love and generosity for her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Martina Tapia of Las Vegas, Denise Suazo (Raymond) of Gilbert, Ariz.; son, Mauricio Tapia III (Irene) of Waianae, Hawaii; grandchildren, Deawna Tapia, Reyes Tapia, Adela Denay Tapia, Victor Suazo, Franchesca Suazo, Dolores Tapia, and Alazay Tapia and great grandchild, Izabella Aguilar. She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph Madrid (Miriam) and Peter Madrid; sisters, Virginia Montoya (Apolinar), Irene Garcia (Fred), Shirley Infante, Freda Gallegos (Leonard), Joyce Bustos (Elmer) and Liz Mason (Bill). She is also survived by close family friends, Matthew and Loretta Sandoval, Cathy Sena, Carmen Gonzales, Heather Sanchez-Martinez, Ramona Piechnik and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.She is also survived by close family friends, Matthew and Loretta Sandoval, Cathy Sena, Carmen Gonzales, Heather Sanchez-Martinez, Ramona Piechnik and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.Kathy retired from the city of Las Vegas where she served as the city finance director for many years. She also worked at First Federal Savings and Loan, the Fourth Judicial District Attorney's Office and San Miguel County. During her life she enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her precious Deawna. All services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today (Friday). The funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant.
