Kathleen J. Castro, age 68, of Oscoda passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital. She was born on Oct. 7, 1946 in Bay City to the late Daniel and Joan Taylor (Luczak). The former Kathleen Taylor married Tony Castro on Nov. 23, 1968 and they permanently resided in Oscoda. She retired from Oscoda Area Schools as a paraprofessional after 28 years of service. Kathleen was very involved with many clubs including the school boosters for choir, sports and band. In addition, she was involved with the math lab, reading lab, summer school and bingo. Kathleen volunteered her time at the Iosco County Humane Society, Taylor's Resort in Tawas City (her mother's business), and she was instrumental in starting the Oscoda Otters swim club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, painting ceramics and especially spending time with her family. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Tony; son, Rich (Connie) Castro of Grand Rapids; daughter, Michelle (Jesse) Whipkey of Oscoda; two granddaughters, Mia and Luella; sister, Diane (Thomas) Ritter of Chelsea; and brother, Daniel Taylor of Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring.
