Joseph L. Anderson Obituary

Jan 20, 1959 - Nov 20, 2017

This obituary is administered by:

Joseph "Joe" Anderson, 58, peacefully went to Heaven on Monday, November 20th, after a courageous eight year battle with melanoma cancer. He was born to George and Janice Anderson (Locke), of Muncie, IN, on January 20, 1959.

Joe graduated from Muncie Northside in 1978, and wound up in Lima in 1987 to take over and manage a McQuick Oil Lube. Joe was eager to get back to Indianapolis until he met and married the love of his life, Robin (Lutterbein), and soon realized Lima was to become his new home. Joe and Robin were married in 1988 and that same year he was hired into Honda of America in Anna, where he recently retired due to his illness. Together Joe and Robin shared 28 years of marriage, 4 children and 1 grandchild and achieved the building of their dream home earlier in 2017.

Joe would tell you he was a “Simple Man” — he was not prone to extravagances nor vices and everyone loved Joe because he was always quick to lend a hand, never boastful nor judgemental, forever patient and a true listener. His family was his life and at the end of the day the only place he ever wanted to be was at home, with his family. Slow to anger and amazingly patient and kind, Joe never had a bad word to say about anyone. He loved to be outside playing golf, sport clay shooting, mowing grass, landscaping and fishing.

Although he was initially diagnosed with melanoma in 2009, and had several recurrences between now and then, it wasn’t until these last several months that this awful disease got the best of him. We are so thankful to Cancer Treatment Centers of America that bought us an extra 2 years of time for Joe to witness the birth of his first grandchild, recently seeing her take her first steps, giving away his daughter, Kori in marriage only one month ago, and getting to enjoy time in the home he designed and loved so much.

Cancer is such a wicked devil, especially melanoma. But Joe never gave up! He never gave in and never complained or cursed his fate. He accepted it with dignity and grace, and we are so thankful that he went peacefully.

Joe was an exceptional father, son, husband and friend to all who knew him. He touched many lives and left this world a better place where his footprints will not soon be forgotten.

Joe is survived by his wife, Robin, his 4 children, Brandi Anderson (Verceles) (Nick Verceles) of Chicago, granddaughter Charlie Verceles. Kori Anderson (Fowler) (Dane Fowler) of Columbus, Aaron Anderson, of St. Louis and Austin Anderson, Coast Guard in San Juan Puert Rico. He also leaves to honor his memory his twin brother, Jeff (Susan Anderson) and their two children, Ben and Emily, from Indianapolis; an older brother, Greg; sister, Kim Smith; daughter, Shreve and grandaughter, Halea, of Muncie; a younger brother, Jon (Angela) and their children, Renee and Callie, of Texas.
