KOCHJoseph J. Koch, 83 of Dillsboro, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Joe was born on January 4, 1934 in Cincinnati Ohio. He graduated from Hughes High School and enlisted, along with his best friend, D. J. Henn in the Marine Corps, eventually serving in Korea. Honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, he enrolled in the Ohio College of Applied Science earning a degree in Electronics Engineering. His working years were spent in industrial electronics sales. On August 7, 1971 he married Caroline (Connie) Tucker. They begin their journey by buying wooded acreage near Dillsboro, where they built a wonderful life together which included many beloved pets over the years. On November 17, 1982, their daughter, and the apple of her dad's eye, Victoria (Tori), was born. As she grew, Joe volunteered as a soccer coach and referee. Joe's other passions included helping found the Cincinnati Young Marines , sponsored by the Marine Corp League Montezuma-Cincinnati Detachment #270. As Young Marine Commanding Officer, and in other capacities, he has touched the lives of countless boys and girls through this organization. In the League and as a Devil Dog, he held several offices, including Commandant and was also honored with the title of Marine of the Year, Upon retirement, Joe fulfilled a lifelong dream . Having been a Marine aircraft mechanic, he always wanted to learn to fly his own plane. At age 62, he earned his private pilot's license and did just that. How he loved the hours he spent in the air! Other activities that he and Connie shared were attending German festivals, air shows, watching John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies and, most of all, being with their precious and adored granddaughter Olivia. Joe is survived by his wife Connie, daughter Victoria (Koch) Dobson, son-in -law Jermaine Dobson, granddaughter Olivia Dobson, all of Lexington, sister Jan Pappas of Chicago, and niece Eva Whyte of Cypress, Texas and other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Cincinnati Young Marines, attn: Mary Horan 4106 Forrest Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio 45212.OOHRAH and Semper Fi, Marine. Fair winds and following seas.
