Joseph Conway FaulNAPLES, FLJoseph C. Faul of Naples, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the age of 91. He left us surrounded by love. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Finbarr Parish on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10am. 13520 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34114. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to one of our father's favorite causes: World Wildlife Fund, public radio and television, veteran's causes, or that you support your local zoo, conservation society, or state or national park near you. His enjoyment of the world around us should be carried forward. Joe was born on February 21, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Mary Cahill Faul and John Joseph Faul. He attended St. Mel's School for Boys on the west side of Chicago. Joe joined the United States Navy in 1944 at the age of 17 and went to basic training at Great Lakes Naval Station, before being sent for torpedo schooling in San Diego, California. From there, he was sent overseas to the South Pacific front during the last years of WWII. He served as a torpedoman and shore patrolman from 1945-1946 in the Philippines where he witnessed the Japanese surrender of the Philippines on Cebu. Joe was honorably discharged from the Navy and was committed to veteran's causes his entire life. He returned to Chicago in 1946 and attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for electrical engineering companies and invented many machines and products still in use today; including parts used on the first manned space vehicles in the 1960s. Joe started Equipment Sales Company, which he operated out of Wauconda, IL until his retirement in 1998. Among many other things, Joe was a proud Irishman, Wauconda Township Official, a black belt in Tae Kwon Do at McHenry Flying Dragons, a member of the VFW, and an avid sailor, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He found great happiness in the Naples, Florida community for the past 20 years where he enjoyed his role as an usher at St. Finbarr Catholic Church and attending events at the Hitching Post. He is survived by his sister Joanne Tyrell of Schaumburg, IL, his seven children, Elizabeth Bell, Brian Faul (Donisha Walker), Marjorie Ryan (Dennis), Jonathan Faul, Sean Faul, Kevin Faul, and Erin Voss (Ronald), grandchildren, Anika Ryan, Jackson Voss, and Kate Voss, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by Ruth Chapman, who was a loving and strong partner to him for many years. He is predeceased by his parents and his darling sister Ramona Rice.He will be greatly missed, but would want us all to laugh and to find happiness in every moment, as he did.
