Rev. Joan JacobusRev. Joan (Stary) Jacobus, 69 formerly of Parker, SD, died on February 21, 2017 at BeeHive Homes of Excelsior, MN. Memorial services will be at 11:00am Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Parker with burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Marion, SD. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Joan Stary was born on November 26, 1947, in Cedar Rapids to Anogene and Robert Stary. She graduated from Washington HS before attending Cottey College and the University of Northern Iowa. Joan received a master of library science degree at Rosary College (Dominican University) and served schools in Burlington and DeWitt as well as a private girls school in Cairo, Egypt. After graduation from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Joan was ordained in 1980 as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA. She served churches in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and South Dakota until her retirement in 2007 as pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Parker. On June 24, 2001 she was united in marriage to Keith Jacobus in Parker. Following her Keith's death in 2011 Joan relocated to Minnesota to be closer to family. Joan is survived by her mother Anogene Stary of Cedar Rapids, IA; a sister-in-law Roberta Young, Norwalk, WS; and Keith and Joan's extended families and friends. www.hofmeisterjones.com
