James "Jim" Loyd WilliamsMemphis, TNJames L. "Jim" Williams, 92, of Memphis, TN was called to his heavenly home on February 22, 2017. Jim was born on November 7, 1924 in a log house on a creek near Friendship, TN. He grew up during the Great Depression in a large farm family and graduated from Friendship High School. In 1944, Jim volunteered for the U.S. Army and bravely served his country as an infantryman in the European Rhineland campaign of WWII. When the war ended, he returned home and later married Carolyn Almond of Tigrett, TN, the love of his life. They raised their family in the Frayser and Raleigh areas of Memphis where Jim worked as a welder for the International Harvester Company. After retiring, Jim and Carolyn built their dream home in the country near Millington TN where they lived happily together for more than 30 years. Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, yard work, hunting, fishing and traveling. He was an inventive handyman who could build or repair anything he set his mind to. A loving Christian husband, father, grandparent and great-grandparent, Jim was a longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church (now Waypoint Baptist Church) and an inspiring role model for his sons and grandchildren. His generous nature, positive attitude, timeless wisdom, outstanding character and ever-present smile will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Vinnie; his brothers Mick and G. A.; and his sisters Mildred, Dorothy and Betty. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn; his sons Steve and Tony; his grandchildren Jason, Tracey and Stacey; his great-grandchildren Alyssa, Dawson, Preston and Jack; his sisters Meb, Nancy and Connie; his brother Ronnie; and his many nieces, nephews and in-laws. The family will receive friends the evening of Friday, February 24 from six until eight o'clock at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee. A celebration of Jim's life will be held Saturday, February 25 at ten o'clock at the same location. Burial will be at Belle Vernon Cemetery in Friendship, Tennessee.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Waypoint Baptist Church, P. O. Box 341549, Bartlett, TN 38184.
