Lt. Col. J.C. CarlinA Mass of Christian Burial for Lt. Col. J.C. Carlin will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at St. Rita Catholic Church with Rev. Craig Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 29, 2017, at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 8:30 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. at St. Rita Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, May 29, 2017, in the Kramer Chapel. Lt. Col. J.C. Carlin, 96, of Alexandria, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the V.A. Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Pineville, La. Lt. Col. J.C. Carlin is preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide Smith Carlin and son, Stephen Carlin. J.C. Carlin was born on April 21, 1921, in Sulphur Mines, Louisiana and graduated from Sulphur High School. J.C. was the quarterback on the Northwestern State College Conference Championship Team. J.C. is a veteran of World War II and flew B-24 bombers in the European Theater of Operations. He was the Past Commander of the American Legion Post (Sulphur), Past Deputy of the Grand Knight Council (Sulphur), Post Commander of the Jackson Barracks from 1964 to 1969, Pro Bono Chairman of the Rapides Parish Coliseum Board, and successful businessman in the construction, lumber yard and printing businesses. J.C. was very active in Catholic parishes throughout his life and helped build Our Lady's Catholic School in Sulphur. J.C. was also a life member of the Order of Daedalians. Those left to cherish his memory include his five children, Col. Mike Carlin and wife, Barbara, Vicki Collins and husband, Bill, Pat Spangler, Paul Carlin and Carl Carlin; nine grandchildren, Catherine O'Brien and husband, Charles, Mary Runyan and husband, Bryan, Amy Robinson and husband, Matt, Eric Spangler, Petty Officer Jake Spangler and wife, Lindsey, Tech Sgt. Mike Carlin and wife, Amie, Matthew Carlin, Adam Zell, and Jonathan Zell; along with 19 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers honored to serve include Eric Spangler, Bryan Runyan, Tech Sgt. Mike Carlin, Nicholas Runyan, Matthew Carlin, Riley Spangler, and Eric Spangler, Jr.Honorary Pallbearers will be Petty Officer Jake Spangler, Doug Robinson, George Thompson, Flight 60 Order of Daedalians, A.L. Wilson, Dick Stine, Gary Stine, Jay Stine, Dennis Stine, David Stine, Tim Stine, Luke Smith, Nathan Smith, Seth Runyan, JoJo Carlin, Mark Robinson, Caleb Spangler, Charles O'Brien, and Matt Robinson.
