Fredric R. Judith Naples , FLFredric R. Judith, 86, of Naples, FL, formerly of Bridgewater, NJ, went home to meet the Lord on December 13, 2016. He was born on October 5, 1930 in Lancaster, PA to a family of distinguished ancestry. His mother was a direct descendant of Hans Herr, the founder of Lancaster and his great-great-great- grandfather on his father's side fought at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 against Napoleon's forces. His father's family immigrated to the United States from Germany in the mid-19th century and settled in Lancaster. He was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Franklin and Marshall College (B.A.), and Indiana University (M.A.). He was a Korean War veteran, having volunteered for the Air Force in 1950, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Good Conduct Medal as a result of his service.He was a research microbiologist with Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway and Branchburg, NJ for 33 years, and retired in 1993. He was an avid reader of history and enjoyed traveling to his condo in Spain during the summers with his family. After retirement, he moved to Naples, FL, because he appreciated the beauty of the city and its wonderful year-round weather. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederic S. Judith and Clara H. Judith (née Bender), and his sister, Joanne Crowder, all of Lancaster, PA. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana (née López) of Naples, FL (originally from Santurce, Puerto Rico); his 3 children: Frederick A. Judith of Plainfield, NJ; Joseph A. Judith (Barbara) of Randolph, NJ; and María T. Botto (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; his 2 grandchildren, Grace Ann Judith and Thomas Fredric Judith; and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews around the country.A Funeral Mass (with military honors afterward) was celebrated Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Naples, FL and his remains will be interred at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL. Arrangements are entrusted to Fuller Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either St. Vincent de Paul Ministries or to the Lakota Indian children at St. Joseph's Indian School of Chamberlain, SD.
