Father To Three - Friend To All
Fernando "Freddy" Montanez, 75, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed on February 09, 2022, surrounded by his son and his friends after several years of declining health. He is survived by his son, Nathan, and two daughters, Amabel & Joannie, as well as a host of grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa, and brother, Pablo.
Freddy served honorably with the US Army having served two tours in Vietnam. He continued his service back home as a civilian, volunteering his time at the Shriners Hospital and as a proud member of VFW Post# 5951, American Legion Post#14, and Knights of Columbus #3779. Freddy enjoyed 25 years of friendships and community along with his UAW brothers and sisters retiring from GM in 2012. Freddy was always there to help relatives and friends with household projects, volunteer, or whatever else people needed him for.
A very special thank you to Enrique "BeBe" Sanchez. A gentle giant with a great soul, BeBe was Freddy's closest friend and "partner in crime". Together they shared many funny memories and a few sad occasions, and it was a rarity if Freddy and BeBe were not running the streets of Shreveport together. Another very special thank you to Juanita for her kindness, friendship, and care, looking after Freddy in the last months of his declining health. Lastly, a special thank you to the people at Willis-Knighton Hospital-North CCU for their loving care and support during his final days.
Fernando will receive full military honors at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetary Friday, February 25, 2022, at 10 AM where his ashes will be scattered in memory in the honor garden.
