LaRoccaAGE: 80 • WilmingtonElizabeth Curran LaRocca "Liz" passed away on January 25, 2017, after a very long courageous battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Liz was born on May 3, 1936 in Wilmington, Delaware and lived all her life in Wilmington. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Marie Rita Curran (Donohoe). She graduated from P.S. DuPont High School, excelling in secretarial skills. She held various positions with several local companies as a teenager before joining Atlas Powder Company which later became Atlas Chemical Industries, then ICI Americas and eventually Zeneca (now Astra Zeneca). She was a dedicated employee at Atlas/ICI for over 35 years starting out as a stenographer, but her knowledge and talents were recognized and she worked her way up to Manager of Accounts Payable in the Finance Department, retiring in 1990.She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed relaxing moments with a glass of wine. She also excelled in solving all types of puzzles, especially the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle.She loved to travel and loved to dance. She also enjoyed spending time at her South Bethany, DE beach house, relaxing and entertaining her family with meals, board games and laughter. She was a prolific reader and very adept at solving mysteries. She was very intelligent and had keen insights in many endeavors such as fashion, etiquette and real estate, the latter of which steered the family to purchase a beach house in lower Delaware.Liz was extremely generous donating to many charitable organizations especially her church, St. Joseph on the Brandywine.She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Hugh Curran, her sisters Rose Marie and Therese Curran, a stepson John LaRocca and a nephew Patrick McGinty.She is survived by her husband of more than 26 years, Sebastian LaRocca, her daughter Rose Mili (Janice), and her sister Margaret McGinty (Robert), stepchildren Marianne Rybaltowski (Leonard), Catherine LaRocca, Barbara Evans (John), Jacqueline Belusko (John) and Thomas LaRocca (Banchi). She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Richard LaRocca, Justine and Brendan Rybaltowski, Tanya Smith, Kevin Dennis (Sierra), Kyle and Matthew Evans and Cameron Teti and four great grandchildren John and Christopher LaRocca, Jacob Calvery and Jax Dennis.A viewing will take place Sunday January 29, 2017 4:00 to 6.00 pm at Mealey Funeral Home 2509 Limestone Rd. and on Monday January 30, 2017 at 9:30 to 10:30 am at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am. Burial will be at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery following Mass. In lieu of flowers donations to the , 300 Churchmans Road #202, Newark, DE 19702 or St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE 19807 are suggested.
