Douglas Adams April 28, 1936 - December 18, 2016Chief Warrant Officer Douglas Kenneth Adams, MMM, CD (Retired), 80, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 peacefully at his home in Kamloops, British Columbia. He was born on April 28, 1936 in St. John, New Brunswick to George and Gladys (Best) Adams.Doug grew up with his 13 siblings (Gordon, Gladys, Murray, George, Mary, Harry, Madeline, Ron, Elsie, Leslie, Nelson, Frank and Paulette) on Water Street in St. John, New Brunswick. He left to join the Canadian Airforce in 1953 at the age of 17. It was during his first posting to Gander, Newfoundland, that he met and married his wife of 60 years, Ina (Clarke) on June 2, 1956.Doug served with the Canadian Airforce for 39 years retiring in 1992 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Doug distinguished himself throughout his military service which included receiving the Order of Military Merit (MMM) from the Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada on December 12, 1988. He was not ready to be retired at the age of 55 and subsequently joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa as a civilian employee for a further 10 years. Doug and Ina remained in Ottawa after his retirement spending time with his children and grandchildren. He moved with his wife Ina to Kamloops, British Columbia in 2014. Doug was preceded in death by his parents George and Gladys, his daughter Elaine and his siblings Gordon, Gladys, Murray, Ron, and Elsie. His sister Mary passed away shortly after Doug on January 2, 2017.Doug is survived by his wife, Ina of Kamloops, BC, his son David of Ottawa, ON, his son Wayne of Ottawa, ON, his daughter Valerie Kristjanson and husband Kris Kristjanson of Kamloops, BC, and his son Michael and wife Cathy Shum-Adams of Toronto, ON and his grandchildren Matthew Adams of Ottawa, ON Ashley Adams of Ottawa, ON and Kael Kristjanson of Victoria, BC. Doug is also survived by his siblings in St. John, NB, George, Harry, Madeline, Leslie, Nelson, Frank, and Paulette as well as numerous nephews and nieces.Friends and family are invited to the interment service being held at the National Military Cemetery of Canada, located at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa, Ontario, on May 1, 2017 at 10:30.
