Oct 02, 1945 - May 13, 2024

This obituary is administered by:

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Donald G Bennett, who left this world on May 13, 2024, in his home surrounded by beloved family and many friends in Bethel, Maine. He fought a courageous battle of Multiple Myeloma.

Donald was born on October 2, 1945, to his parents Roy and Janet (Jennie) Bennett. He grew up in Newry, Maine and attended Gould Academy. In 1964, he graduated and went on to marry his beloved wife, Cheryl Grenier in the year 1966 and spent the remainder of his life in Bethel, where he and his wife raised three children: Heidi Bennett (partner Brad Corson), Michael Bennett, and Amy Martin (spouse Kory Martin).

Family was always at the center of Donald's life, and he loved spending time with his 10 grandchildren, Catelynn, Ryan (spouse Cortney), Jillian, Lauren, Carli, Cyle, Colby, Cayley, Nathan, and Katherine, along with 3 great grandchildren Jaxson, Madelynn, and River, and several nieces and nephews who all brought him immense joy and laughter, as well as his 2 cats Curly and Larry, who he fondly called "his boys".

After he graduated from Gould, he went on to work for a local logging company for a year and then worked at the Rumford paper mill for a few years before starting his own logging company which he operated for 48 years. After his son Michael graduated from high school he joined his father as a partner in the business. Donald served on the Bethel Planning Board as an alternate from 1995-1997, Bethel Selectman from 1998-2019 serving as Chairman the last 3 years, an Assessor from 2008-2020, and also on the ORC from 2003-2019. He was an early member of the Mahoosuc Land Trust and was a crucial part in the development of Angevine Park. He also was the recipient of 2 of the Junior Chamber of Commerce award over the years.

You could always find Donald after his retirement either tinkering in his garage, working at his sawmill, or cutting fire wood for his customers. He had many interest and hobbies, some of which include drawing, painting, wood working, fly fishing and tying flies. He left us with amazing pieces of his art work and wood creations.

Donald will be remembered for his kind heart, wisdom, his strong work ethic, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Rest in peace.

A special thanks to Dr.Erickson his Oncologist, "his girls" at the infusion center (Tabitha, Sophia, Maranda, and Tia), and Dr.Finley.

He was predeceased by both of his parents, his siblings Richard, Eldon, and Amy, along with his Granddaughter Chandler.

In Lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Bethel Ambulance Service, in care of David Hanscom.

Visiting hours will be held at the Alliance Church in Bethel from 3-5pm on Sunday, May 19th. A celebration of life will be held at the garage on Old Iron rd, Bethel on June 1st starting at 2pm.
