Dennis Hoelscher Obituary

May 14, 1940 - Mar 10, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Dennis Hoelscher(Rapid City) Dennis passed away on March 10, 2017, at Bella Vista Care Center at the age of 76. Dennis "Denny" Edward Hoelscher was born on May 14, 1940 to Walter and Lottie Hoelscher in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children. He moved to Lennox, SD at age 6. He enjoyed growing up in the small community of Lennox where he attended Lennox Public Schools and met the love of his life, Marilyn Dee Jones. Denny and Marilyn were married on June 11, 1961 at First English Lutheran Church in Lennox. They were blessed with two sons, Charles "Chuck" and Robert "Rob". After high School, Denny worked at the family business, Hoelscher Creamery & Cheese Factory until it was sold in 1967. For numerous years, he worked as an auto body repair man for various car dealerships in the Sioux Falls area. In 1982, Denny opened his own business, Denny's Paint and Body in Lennox where he continued to work on cars for over 15 years. Denny enjoyed many things over the years including traveling with Marilyn to attend family events across the United States, rounds of golf at Lenkota, boating on Lake Poinsett and camping with his boys, polishing cars, watching his grandchildren (his pride and joy) grow up, wood carving, volksmarches and drives through his beautiful Black Hills. He was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Hill City and enjoyed summer Sunday evening services at the Rochford Chapel. In 1998, Denny and Marilyn fulfilled their lifetime dream of moving to the Black Hills where Denny subsequently worked on the Mickelson Trail and Snowmobile trails in the Black Hills for the state of South Dakota as well as at Mt Rushmore National Monument. The latter was a highlight of Denny's life as he enjoyed meeting and talking to people from all over the world and spending his days outdoors. He continued to work until his health declined due to a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease in 2000. With the loving care of his wife, he was able to reside at home until October of 2015. Forever grateful for having shared his life are Marilyn of Hill City, SD and his sons, Chuck and (Becky) Hoelscher of Sioux Falls, SD and Rob and (Malenda) Hoelscher of Pinedale, WY. His grandchildren, Hannah Hoelscher and her fiancé Don Anding, both of Manayunk, PA; Aimee and (Zane) Peterson of Sioux Falls; Hayden Hoelscher, Brookings, SD and Alex Hoelscher, Sioux Falls and a great grandson, Mavick Peterson. In addition to his immediate family, Denny leaves a brother, Dean Hoelscher of Pierre, SD and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Denny is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deanna Krause of Watertown, SD. Celebration of Life will be held at the Community Lutheran Church in Hill City with Pastor Arley Fadness officiating on Sunday, March 12th at 2pm. Internment at the Lennox Cemetery will occur at a later date. The family extends gratitude to not only the staff of Bella Vista but the many friends and family that provided love and support to Denny over the past several years. Your visits and calls meant the world to us.
