Dean A. Schenk, 66St. JosephMar. 21, 1951 - Sep. 6, 2017Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud for Dean A. Schenk, age 66, of St. Joseph, who passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends. Reverend John Gabrielson will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the Church.Dean was born on March 21, 1951 to Armin and Elaine (Krengel) Schenk in Springfield, Minnesota. He grew up in the Windom area and attended Windom High School. He graduated from the Alexandria Technical and Community College with an Associate's Degree in Diesel Mechanics. He spent his early life working as a mechanic and farming in Southern Minnesota before moving to the St. Cloud area. He was united in marriage to Karen A. Lahr on October 22, 2005 at Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. They were married for 12 happy and memorable years. Most recently, he worked as a shop foreman for ASTECH Corp in St. Joseph. Dean was a St. Joseph Police Department Reserve Officer and was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud.Dean was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid woodworker, creating furniture, yard games and rocking chairs. Dean enjoyed anything with an engine, especially traveling with his wife on their Honda Goldwing and watching NASCAR. His most memorable trips included his tour of Canada and more recently his trip to Washington D.C. where he was able to tour the Pentagon. Dean also enjoyed giving of himself and his talents, volunteering at Church and Place of Hope. He will be remembered for his quick wit and for surprising people with his generosity.He is survived by his wife, Karen; three daughters from his previous marriage, Elizabeth, Anne Marie and Heather; eight grandchildren; siblings, Diane (Denny) Riewe and Mark (Brenda); best friends, Craig and Laurie Meyer and their family; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.Dean is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mavis Schenk.A special thank you to the staff of the St. Cloud Hospital, especially those in the Intensive Care Unit, for their loving and professional care.
