This obituary is administered by:
David "Dave" Lee EnglishORANGE, CA: David (Dave) passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017 in Orange, California after a heart attack. He was born on July 28, 1930 in Chillicothe, Ohio and spent his first few years in the Chillicothe area. He was the third and last child of Agnes Leona Counts and Roy Leewood English. He attended Western Elementary School where his grandfather Otto English was principal. He graduated from Southeastern High School in Richmondale in 1948. When he was around seven years old, his mother began manifesting symptoms of schizophrenia. Because there wasn't a successful treatment for the disease at this time, she was removed from the family home and placed in a state mental institution. Shortly after this, his father Roy decided it would be beneficial to have his children grow up in the country. He purchased three acres of land from his wife's father and built a home. The place was called Whiskey Run. It was in the woods away from the city. Dave and his brother Howard, who was two years older, were best friends and loved living in the country. They played in the creek and woods and hunted small game. He joined the Navy in 1948 and became an electronics technician after training. He spent two years in Japan and after discharge in 1952, went back to Ohio and attended Ohio State University. He relocated to Southern California in 1954, living with his brother Howard and his family. Around this time, new, anti-psychotic drugs were developed. These dramatically changed the life of their mother Agnes so much that she was released from the mental institution and Dave and Howard had her come to California to live near them. Also in 1954, he was hired by Hughes Aircraft Company working in the microwave products division for a total of thirty-eight years, retiring in 1993. While working part time, he attended USC and in 1967 was awarded the Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Dave was a member of IEEE and co-author of many technical papers published in their journals. He was also co-inventor of devices that patents were granted for. Dave was very humble about his accomplishments and numerous awards he received from his work. He met the love of his life, Faye Agnes Brown and they were married on November 30, 1957. They were best friends until Faye's passing in 2011. In 1961, they bought their first and only home in Garden Grove, California.Dave and Faye had two children, Roy and Denise. Dave's favorite place on earth was California's Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. He became interested in genealogy in the 1970s and spent many hours with his wife researching their family histories and became an expert genealogist. He spent many hours doing research in the LDS Library in Salt Lake City. He also volunteered at the National Archives.Upon retirement, Dave and Faye spent a lot of time with their grandchildren Brad, Andrew and Tyler. They were great parents and grandparents. They taught their kids and grandkids kindness and responsibility by their example.Dave is predeceased by his parents Agnes and Roy English, sister Nella Anne Olsen and brother Howard English.Dave will be sadly missed by his son Roy, daughter Denise, son-in-law Jeff and their three boys, Brad Andrew and Tyler all of Garden Grove, CA. We love you Dad and Grandpa. A graveside service will be held on Saturday November 11, 2017 at 11 am at Santa Ana Cemetery, Santa Ana, California with reception following at Fairhaven Memorial Park in The Gallery.
