from Millersville, Maryland, United States

On July 2, 2019, Dale Edward Humberson, 77, of Millersville, MD, passed away at Bon Secours Regional Memorial Hospital. Dale was born on April 4, 1942 in Washington, DC and grew up in Garrett County, MD. He served his country proudly from 1959-1979 in the US Navy, achieving a rank of Petty Officer First Class (E6). During his service, he was a member of the original crew of the USS Kitty Hawk, served on the Presidential detail for John F. Kennedy, and was a member of the Seabees Mobile Command (Battalions 1, 5, and 8). His most memorable and notable contribution as a Seabee, was constructing the airstrip in Diego Garcia.

After the military, Dale drove a tractor trailer for Overnite transportation for 10 years, with a perfect safety record. He then worked at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in property management and logistics until he retired in 2013.

Dale was an avid golfer and made custom golf clubs. One of his favorite pastimes was playing card games with family and friends. He was a skilled woodworker, and he enjoyed sketching and photography.

Dale is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Winnie (née Liang), daughter Brenda (Peter), son Karl (Jennifer), and six grandchildren Calvin, Caroline, Mathew, Olivia, Hannah, and Christina.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association, in his name. A commitment ceremony will be scheduled at Arlington National Ceremony in the future.
