Conception Cervantes, passed away peacefully at her home in Ashwood, Oregon, on August 11, 2025, at the age of 70, surrounded by her family.
Born on January 13, 1955, Conception was the eldest of three siblings. She grew up with a deep love for books, gardens, and the natural world—a passion she carried with her throughout her life. After earning her degree in education from the University of Oregon, Conception spent over 30 years as a beloved elementary school teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her warmth, patience, and unwavering belief in the power of kindness.
Conception married her college sweetheart, James Thompson, in 1977. Together, they built a home filled with music, laughter, and love. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Clara and Matthew, and an adoring grandmother to Lily, Owen, and Sophie.
A lifelong gardener and avid birdwatcher, Conception found joy in the quiet beauty of the outdoors. Her backyard was a sanctuary for butterflies, finches, and anyone who needed a gentle word or a cup of tea. She volunteered for two decades at the local library and was active in community literacy programs long after her retirement.
Conception will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her handwritten notes, and the way she made every person feel seen and valued. Her legacy lives on in the stories she told, the seeds she planted, and the love she gave so freely.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James; her daughter Clara Wren (Daniel); her son Matthew Thompson (Leah); her grandchildren Lily, Owen, and Sophie; her sister Ruth Bell; and many dear friends.
