A life well lived..

Charles "Poppy" Martin, a beloved resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on June 30, 2023. Born on August 31, 1940, Poppy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and mischief.

Poppy was a true New Orleans native who embodied the spirit of the city. Known for his vibrant personality and infectious smile, he brightened the lives of those around him. Whether he was sipping on a café au lait while enjoying the lively jazz music or cheering on the Saints at the Superdome, Poppy thrived in the vibrant culture of his beloved hometown.

Poppy had an unparalleled zest for life, and his mischievous nature often led to many fond memories. He would always be caught sneaking a taste of gumbo before it was ready or playfully teasing his grandchildren until they couldn't help but laugh. The sound of his hearty laughter was a melody that echoed through every room he entered.

An avid storyteller, Poppy had an uncanny ability to captivate audiences with tales of his adventures. From his days as a street musician on Bourbon Street to his encounters with voodoo priestesses, his stories were always met with awe and intrigue. It seemed as though every moment of his life was an extraordinary tale waiting to be shared.

Poppy's heart overflowed with love for his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband to his late wife, Edna, and a cherished father to his five children, Charles III, Karen, Brad, “Hurkey”,and “his baby” Karelyn. He was the doting grandparent to twelve grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Poppy" – a nickname that captured his playful and youthful spirit.

Poppy's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. However, his legacy of love, laughter, and mischievousness will continue to shine brightly through his loved ones. As he takes his place in the heavenly jazz band, let us remember Poppy with joy and celebrate the incredible life he led.

Rest in peace, dear Poppy. May your laughter resound among the stars and your spirit forever dance through the streets of New Orleans.
